Grey day

Cold, grey day
sky and sea at one
granite stone walls
mine engine house ruin.

Dead grass, light gravel
tarmac, sand, grit,
patches of cropped turf
green amongst the dull.

Black and white two magpies
eye catching in the leaden
wagtail, blackbird, chaffinch
perch on hoary bush.

Rabbits grazing on the ground
black ears flicking,
twitching, hopping,
movements on the grey.

Shades lacklustre now
sky and sea just slate
muted colour of the landscape
surprised by sunshine colour.

Yellow of the gorse
radiant, brilliant, refulgent
ray of sunshine strikes the land
look attentively
this day is far from grey.

Once again, you paint with brilliant strokes. I love this and it reminds me of talking about the beauty of the desert in the US Southwest. I though it was beautiful and filled with color. A family member drove through it and told me it was all gray and hideous.

The greyness was striking until you mentioned the gorse! Our gorse hasn't even come into bud yet. It will flower around May or June. It must be nice to see a splash of sunshine just now.Keep writing, Poet; I love these images.

Doris: Glad you enjoyed the images, the colour of gorse is so splendid.

Lady M: Hope it was the colour of the gore rather than the grey that triggered your memories.

it begins with sadness and ends with an optimistic accent, good!

Betsy from Tennessee: The ray of sunshine did just that on this grey day!

Cuby said...

Ola: I am so pleased that you saw this and it was just how it felt when I saw the gorse in the sunshine. Thanks. :)

Yes indeed, a grey day is only so if one allows it to be.

Cuby said...

Ina in Alaska: Your comment is so right although there are days when grey dominates the sky and the temp and to find colour you need to look indoors!

I do rather like those muted colours that show of natures delights.

Cuby said...

CherryPie: Grey is a colour we are so used to here in winter so occasional bright colours lift the spirits.

A great painting of a spring day near the sea.

AL: I hope the next time there will be more yellow and lass grey then it would feel more like Spring and less wintery!

Reading your poem, I see a lovely day even if it is a grey day. Watching the birds and the rabbits is something I really enjoy, but I am glad the sun came out. I am not familiar with gorse. I will have to google it. Have a happy weekend!

eileeninmd:Some days when the day is grey it forces you to look carefully for the beauty around. Gorse is everywhere on the cliffs and moors.

You took me back to one of my favorite places in the world. I visited Cornwall with my sister and her family in 99...enjoyed a bit of Fish and Ships days in Padstow one afternoon. Loved it. Hope your weekend is a good one.

This must have been a nice walk Claire.

Maura@ Lilac Lane Cottage: So good to see you here. Padstow is pretty but always busy but my Cornwall is less well known but equally beautiful.

Cuby said...

Roy: It certainly was.

I like this one as most of our winter seems to be grey, which I don't find offensive. Boom & Gary of the Vermilon River, Canada.

Gary: Grey is the colour of winter a great deal of the time so a shaft of sunlight cheers the soul.
