on the back of a hurricane

                                               The wind came overnight
on the back of a hurricane
across the Atlantic
Katia by name.

I went to the sea
by the old lifeboat station
waves tossing shingle
where rocks touch the waves.

The sea it was boiling
churning then breaking
stewing not resting
wasting the energy of thousands of miles.

Far from the beach
huge waves were smashing
surfers just staring
too wild to ride.

People were watching
nature in fury
seagulls were land bound
in wind so extreme.

Sky it was angry
darker than night
storm skimmed the surface
skudding so fast.

This day is unusual
wind so extraordinary
people were watching
then Katia expired.

You convey the scene very well, Cuby.

Thanks Welshcakes. It was a case of go to the sea then come home while it is still fresh and write. All rather quick! Claire :)

Yes, I can understand why your sunflowers are no longer. Residue winds from these storms are knocking down many crops hurting farmers. I hope you are safe and sound now that it has "expired. -- barbara

It is still blowing strongly but we are reassured by the weather forecast that it will have blown out by Thursday. - Claire :)
