top of the tide

I sit on the granite wall
by the old wharf
at the top of the tide.

Water swirls in eddies
unsure of direction
at the top of the tide

two swans paddle up river
while bubbles float all ways
at the top of the tide

geese honk on the mud flats
enjoying deep water
at the top of the tide

the water is retreating
heading back to sea
at the turn of the tide.

I leave the granite wall
by the old wharf
at the ebb of the tide.

again leaves me longing for long hours of sitting and observation. (also reminds me somewhat of that old Otis Redding song, sittin' on the dock of the bay.)

Thanks to all. This is a quiet contemplative place and just watching the water is enough to pass the time. I am pleased that this has come through in my words.

As I live at the ocean's edge, I can so relate to your poem today. It's perfect! ~karen
