The vase.

I bought a vase today
it's stately, yellow
with blue tulips
round the middle.

I will pick tall flowers
for my vase
hollyhocks, delphiniums
they must be blue.

My vase with lofty flowers
will take the pride of place
on the table
where the sun shines.

I saw it and bought
 this at The Cornwall air
 ambulance charity shop
35 cm tall,what a find.

I can just picture it on the table with the sunlight playing on it.

Isn't it strange how a thing can catch your attention and be a bargain at the same time? I was pretty pleased!

What a delightful image. Summer is in my head immediately, with wafts of Monet's garden in Giverney hovering around the edges. I love this stuff!

that will look lovely!

Doris:This gives me such pleasure and I am looking forward to filling it with spring and summer flowers rather than the dried ones I am using at the moment.

Crafty Green Poet:I imagine it will too.

Sounds beautiful. And so much better to place it "where the sun shines" rather than, as they say in the US, "where the sun don't shine"!

Mitch Block: So true. We also say that in the UK!

A vase can make a big difference to a room's warmth...

I'm a fellow devotee of thrift-shop vases. Would have loved to see a photo of your find, and I enjoy your use of "lofty" in the poem.

Maria; I think a vase can be such a lovely addition to how a room feels and I am not sure if this one is warm or sunny but after I have lived with it for a time I guess I will know.

Enchanted Oak: Good to be able to welcome you here. I love charity shops and the treasures found within.

" they must be blue" like "upwards" I , too, like this line. It reminds me of Hughes' poem to Plath in which he wrote: " but the jewel you lost was blue" ( from Red by Hughes )

Yvonne: Thanks for this comment must get hold of a complete Hughes collection.
