almost every weekend

almost every weekend
like astronauts
they climb
small pause
then ascend slowly
some more

across steep field
where dairy cattle
graze, stand
above unseen
members of tribe Apini
elevated on high

 two spacemen
disappear behind
a stand of trees
sycamore, oak, ash
I can only ponder

'til a waft of smoke
appears drifts
as only that produced
smokers of apiarists
used where bees are kept
honey begins here

Lovely. And praise be to all beekeepers who nurture our bees - the world needs them. M x

Vintage Jane: So good to see you here - welcome! I am always gladdened when I see hives behind hedges and other secret places. This the life of the village beekeeper with a small garden.

You had me wondering where this was leading us - quite wonderful!

How lovely. I have no idea where the nearest bees are kept. I do know that the honey produced by bees who have fed on our eucalypts is sublime.

i could taste the fresh honey with this thought

Elaine: Thanks for this lovely comment.

The Elephant's Child: Eucalyptus honey sounds delightful. The best honey I have had is heather from Scotland and Lavender from Toulouse, France.

Out on the prairie: Nothing better than the taste of honey.

Like the way you build the mystery. Even at the end, I feel like I wouldn't get a really good look at the beekeepers, just see the poofs of their smokers.

Jenny: I have never seen their faces either! Pleased you liked the build up in this poem.

I was curious, very nice poem as I was also wondering where it was going. I don't like getting too near bees, but I appreciate what they do for us.

CherryPie: Thank you I am glad it was
worth the wait! :)

Al: I like you appreciate their labours in both honey and pollinating the flowers of the crops.

E.G.CameraGirl: An acceptable surprise I hope! :)

Mitchell is Moving: I can only presume the wait was worth it by your words 'What Magic'. Thanks a lot. :)
