The white cottage with a beautiful door

The white cottage with a beautiful door
encircled by trees
deciduous ones
to fend off the wind
wild gales, storms from afar.

This functional slate roof
protects this beautiful cottage
by the very steep road
with a bend at the top
down which cyclists free wheel.

Big garden behind the white cottage
with a playhouse of wood
where children imagine,
here two cats sleep with
their fishy old dreams.

Chickens run freely right by the walls
scratching and pecking
til the ground is a mess
the eggs are all free range
laid hidden from sight.

This place seems near perfect
a storybook home
with flowers so pretty
someone lucky must live here,
this white cottage with the beautiful door.

You had me at "deciduous". :)
I LOVED this! What a great way you have with making the words in your poems flow and paint a picture. After reading this, I can close my eyes and "see" the cottage...
Sorry that I don't comment more on your poetry - you are one of my absolute favorite poets and I always look forward to your posts. :)

Kevin Routh: Thank you so much for this. I aim to paint a picture with words(I am rubbish with a brush and paints!) and these words seem to work for you. I am so glad that you like my work, it is so important to me to get constructive feedback.I feel the pressure of being you favourite poet and will try to live up to this! :)

Sounds like a neat place. Our chickens like to hide their eggs in sneaky places too.

Lisa @ Two Bears Farm: It is a pretty little house near here.

out on the prairie: The cottage that inspired this does exist but don't forget there has been a certain amount of 'poets' license'!

So great to read poems that aren't filled with inner angst. I look forward to more poems.

Cuby said...

Jenny: Welcome here. There is enough negativity in the world and as I live in such a beautiful part of this planet I draw inspiration from all around me to create my poems.
