waves like lace

waves break
out from the beach
rustling, bustling
crashing,splashing
proceed to the shore

without interruption
arrive on the sand
like lace
of Elizabethan ruffle
layer on layer
delicate foam

You've picked one of my favourite topics here! Love the idea of lace like waves, that, together with the movement of the waves conjures up an image of the Elizabethan bathers, too. (btw...have been in twice and it's still freezing! )x

Oh, that's exactly like it is, too! You have such a gift with words.

Yvonne: There were paddlers and surfers in wetsuits but none as brave as you! Glad you liked my idea.

KaHolly: So pleased you enjoyed this one. :)

A lovely poem, it makes me think of water. And that's something we need out here desperately.

Al: We have plenty of all kinds of water! Too much. It is pouring again right now. Glad you liked my words.

Yes, lace captures that pattern of foam as the waves break perfectly. I also remember watching with fascination, the lace forming on the wake of our ship travelling to England when I was six years old.

CherryPie: I am so glad you can enjoy them with me.

Viola: Walking through them on the sand would be lovely but the sea is still cold!

You must be out on your boat. I spent most of my day looking over a series of small lakes.

Nancy Claeys: We are so near the sea with its changing moods. Pleased you liked it.

Out on the prairie: I was on a low grassy cliff this time. A series of small lakes sounds so pretty?!

So sorry to have missed commenting on so many of your lovely poems lately but I have read and enjoyed all of them. I loved the reference to Elizabethan lace ruffles, a perfect analogy!

In an earlier poem you mentioned swans knocking on the boat which reminded me that my husband often mentions his childhood memories of holidays spent on his parent's boat and how the swans would wake them in the mornings by knocking on the windows, asking for bread :-)

Congratulations on your recent 100th poem!
