Each day

Each day
I see
field hedge
with curved corner
distinct
definite purpose

Each day
I wonder
why it is such
following
old parish boundary
this ancient hedge

Each day
I think
is it so
farmer's dispute of old
now forgotten
a barrier for cows

Each day
I hope
it remains
for ever
haven for wildlife
this natural protection

Each day
I see, wonder, think
and hope
my hedge
always in my mind
this hedge

There is a random hedge down a country road that I always wonder about. Your poem has captured my sentiments exactly!

I know how you feel, hedges are so lovely to look at and so important for wildlife, yet so vulnerable to removal and destruction

Cuby said...

Crafty Green Poet: This one is safe from destruction as it situated on a family farm.

Hedges are special because, although they are man-made barriers, they become so much a part of the natural environment. Your poem really evokes this feeling. Lovely!

This reminds me of the English hedges in the farmland where my grandparents lived - I loved visiting them.

Al: This hedge is so old which is part of the reason why I find it so beautiful.

So important to shelter wildlife. I hope your hedge remains, also.

Cuby said...

Hilary: It has been here for centuries and I hope it will be here long into the future.
