My garden in early summer.

Sit on the wooden seat
enjoy life around.

Surrounded by flowers
shrubs boldly bloom
azaleas purple, pink, white
rosemary's delicate flower.

Honeysuckle perfumes
pervade my garden
hedgerow now green
stitchwort cascade.

Bumble bees eden
sounds in the air
activity surrounds
glorious world.

Air growing chill
light fades into dusk
swallows are feeding
swooping dancing.

Goldfinches feeding
moths begin to appear
quietening garden
bat flits then another.

Tawny owl hoots
so nearly dark
crescent moon shining
air is so still.

Time to retreat
from my elysian garden.

What a lovely evocation of a summer evening. Here, the autumn leaves are Klimt-gold, that crescent moon, silver in an unusual night sky - bright star-studded above while lightening flickers from clouded horizon. But as I write, I can hear that the stormy rain has arrived!

Jeneane: There was too much really for one poem, it may reappear in another form soon. Thanks for your thoughts.

Cuby, your poem is delightful. I can picture sitting in the garden surrounded by flowers and the sweet smell of honeysuckle. I hope you have a lovely week ahead.

I picture you out in the garden in the late afternoon when there is still enough sun for the bumblebees, and then as you sit, the sun falls and evening begins. I think the poem has a good sense of passage of time as well as lots of atmosphere. It captures many of the senses.

Glorious! Who would want to leave? What would we do without our gardens, maybe visit other ones.....

Jim: I have a little but rather delightful garden even more lovely when the sun shines. On the day I wrote about it was doing just that.

What a great feeling this poem gives me. I'd like to go and sit in my yard now, but there's a huge thunderstorm moving in!
