weavers in the sky

with beauty
a flight
diving
threading
unseen silk
between through
above below
creating
diaphanous
gossamer
invisible
cloth

swallows
weavers in the sky

One perfect evening

I remember
one perfect evening
last summer
afloat on the river

our boat
hull shining blue
tied to her mooring
drifting with flow

Perceuil river
sheltered peaceful
burgee fluttering
shrouds rattling music

tidal with river
contra directions
high, low tides
water is mistress

pair of swans knocking
using their beaks
polite but insistent
grunting together

warm air wafting
gentle caressing
surface rippling
concentric circles

egrets flapping
into tree tops
settling resting
tranquil repose

listening now
the end of the day
nothing is moving
swathed by the silence

light merging
with night
all is subdued
world sleeps 'til the morn

My garden in early summer.

Sit on the wooden seat
enjoy life around.

Surrounded by flowers
shrubs boldly bloom
azaleas purple, pink, white
rosemary's delicate flower.

Honeysuckle perfumes
pervade my garden
hedgerow now green
stitchwort cascade.

Bumble bees eden
sounds in the air
activity surrounds
glorious world.

Air growing chill
light fades into dusk
swallows are feeding
swooping dancing.

Goldfinches feeding
moths begin to appear
quietening garden
bat flits then another.

Tawny owl hoots
so nearly dark
crescent moon shining
air is so still.

Time to retreat
from my elysian garden.

Oystercatchers

standing where sea meets land
a crowd has gathered
gossiping incessantly
chatting without pause
black and white their uniforms

suddenly they fly
circling excitedly
sound of wings and voice pervades the air
leisurely landing
a little further up the shore

they reconvene
continue without pause
this futile conversation
without quality or depth
just chattering for ever
