Cornwall Summer 2012
every
morning
wake
with expectation
of
beyond the window
blue
skies reign
but
no
just
rain
drizzle,
mizzle, damp,
heavens
emptying
pouring,
siling,
raining
'cats and dogs'
or
if you prefer 'pink elephants'
it's
lagging it down
slugs,
snails, ducks
in
paradise unequalled
crops
rotting in fields
farmers,
gardeners, despair
flooded
homes
occupiers
distressed
forecasters
blame
the
jet stream
too
far south
citizens
crave warm
sunny
skies
vitamin
D
BBQ,
picnics, al fresco meals
summer
clothes, no coats
but
on and on
this
rain it falls
day
after day
all
night too
grey
skies reign

Out on the prairie: At least we are at home looking out not like the bedraggled holidaymakers huddled in their tents.

Friends of the Earth warned us about this years ago! I like the way your poem begins and ends " blue skies reign" becomes " grey skies reign".

I am so sorry for you and your bad weather. It seems that this year the roles are reversed. We have the best summer in many years. Sunshine for more than a couple of days. Bliss! But dare I say it - we are getting short of water! Who would ever have thought that!

We are having a very dry summer in Ontario - you are getting all our rain. But a few years ago we had a very rainy summer after a very, very snowy winter and it was depressing for sure. Hope you get some sun soon. Great poem.
Jenny: It really is rather depressing as half way through this summer I don't want much just to be able to have a coffee outside would be so nice. Pleased you like the poem.
Your poem evokes the feeling of frustration when one hopes for a better day and it doesn't come - just more of the same. For you, it is sunshine and the end of rain - for me it is rain and the end of a horrible drought here in Southeastern Ontario. Nature has her own mind about these things and it is hard to feel patient when we are at her mercy.
