Cornwall Summer 2012

every morning
wake with expectation
of beyond the window
blue skies reign

but no
just rain
drizzle, mizzle, damp,
heavens emptying
pouring, siling,
raining 'cats and dogs'
or if you prefer 'pink elephants'
it's lagging it down

slugs, snails, ducks
in paradise unequalled
crops rotting in fields
farmers, gardeners, despair
flooded homes
occupiers distressed

forecasters blame
the jet stream
too far south

citizens crave warm
sunny skies
vitamin D
BBQ, picnics, al fresco meals
summer clothes, no coats

but on and on
this rain it falls
day after day
all night too
grey skies reign

KaHolly: Sadly it may do in that case you will know how dispiriting it is. :)or perhaps :( X

Out on the prairie: At least we are at home looking out not like the bedraggled holidaymakers huddled in their tents.

Cuby said...

Elaine: We are finding snails sliming their way into the house through low open windows. Quickly ejected.

Cuby said...

Ola: Oh how I wish for some sun.

A Quiet Corner: Happy Birthday daughter! Pleased you liked this poem.

Friends of the Earth warned us about this years ago! I like the way your poem begins and ends " blue skies reign" becomes " grey skies reign".

Lovely poem, Cuby! If your weather is really like this today, I am wishing you some sunshine. It is the opposite here hardly any rain and clear skies. Have a great weekend.

Cuby said...

Yvonne: We should all have been aware of this extraordinary weather, therefore climate change but now we are experiencing it e seem surprised. It is raining now, surprised? No.

Cuby said...

eileeninmd: It is raining now!

too much rain here too, the north west Highlands of Scotland are the place to be!

Sounds like too much rain, a little is nice. Wishing you a sunny weekend. Lovely poem as always :)

Mizzle... :) I would send you some sun from here if I could. :)

I am so sorry for you and your bad weather. It seems that this year the roles are reversed. We have the best summer in many years. Sunshine for more than a couple of days. Bliss! But dare I say it - we are getting short of water! Who would ever have thought that!

CherryPie said...

That pretty much sums it up!! I little sunshine would be so welcome :-)

Oh how challenging! Wishing you sunny skies. Wishing the drought-starved southern United States some of your rain. Why won't Mother Nature share??

Crafty Green Poet: So I notice on the forecast, sun symbols there day after day

Cuby said...

Denise: Far and away much too much.

Cuby said...

Nancy Claeys: It rains so much in the UK that we do have a great collection of 'rain' words.

Cuby said...

Doris: Do take care you don't get burnt, we are showing signs of rust and rising damp!

Cuby said...

CherryPie: Nothing else to say.

Cuby said...

upwoods: challenging is an understatement here!

We are having a very dry summer in Ontario - you are getting all our rain. But a few years ago we had a very rainy summer after a very, very snowy winter and it was depressing for sure. Hope you get some sun soon. Great poem.

Cuby said...

Jenny: It really is rather depressing as half way through this summer I don't want much just to be able to have a coffee outside would be so nice. Pleased you like the poem.

Your poem evokes the feeling of frustration when one hopes for a better day and it doesn't come - just more of the same. For you, it is sunshine and the end of rain - for me it is rain and the end of a horrible drought here in Southeastern Ontario. Nature has her own mind about these things and it is hard to feel patient when we are at her mercy.

Evlyn: Mother Nature knows best.

Nice one, Cuby. And here's me longing for rain here!

Cuby said...

Welshcakes: Now England is boiling, no half measures here but at least there will be no threat of drought this year!

You have certainly captured the relentless feeling of it!
